Hiya! At last, here is the second chapter of my fanfic. Every event/action in this story is still entirely fictional. Feedback of any kind is welcome.
Enjoy!

CHAPTER 2 A clammily mood filled the entire living room, which was usually a very nice place to be in. Gemma, who had heard every single one of the words said for the past few minutes, was still on the sofa. She held on to her female friends' hands tightly, and was shaking like a leaf while thinking the whole thing through. What's wrong with me - and just how bad is it? The questions kept spinning in her head, and once again, silence took over. Having thought things through, she suddenly spoke up. "Do whatever it is that you have to do," she said, addressing the two doctors. "I totally trust you both. But..." She had to cut herself off, gasping. She breathed heavily in and out a couple of times, before picking up where she'd previously left off. "But I would still like you to treat me, though," she told Shane decisively. "That's possible, isn't it? This is within your field, isn't it? Do I have to stay overnight?" She fell silent. Oh, dear. I'm asking too many questions. "Sorry," she said, smiling embarrassed. "Too many...Too many questions." Shane just smiled at her. "It's okay, don't you worry about that. I understand that there are many things you want to and need to know. That's absolutely normal." Gemma seemed to be relieved by this. "But I'm going to have to be honest with you here," Shane continued. "We're suspecting your illness may be purely medical, which is why Chaz called someone from her own department. Before you've been given a proper examination, it's too early to tell for how long you will be staying in hospital. Due to your current condition, however, you will definitely not be coming back home today. That's all I can say for now. Like I said, we will have to examine you and diagnose you." The child-carer really appreciated his honesty. That was one of the things she liked the most about him. "So, tell me.. Will you...Will you be my doctor?" she asked him directly. It was important for her to feel safe. In this situation, she felt that there were only two doctors who could provide her with the safety she had to have. The two doctors standing by her side. Charlotte quickly approached the child-carer. "Ssssh, sweetie," she said, worried. "It's important that you talk as little as possible now. You need to concentrate on your breathing." Gemma didn't give in to this. Despite her poor condition and serious breathing problems, she decided that she had to say what she wanted to say. "No. Other. Doctors. Than. Shane," she said through gritted teeth, her voice still low while looking at her doctor-friend. "He is my favourite doctor, alongside you." It was impossible to misinterpret what she said. She knew very well what she wanted. "Easy, Gem, easy," Shane asked. "Everything's going to be fine. First, we have to get you to the Accidents & Emergency department. I am going to do a full-scale medical examination on you. Subsequently, I will be able to tell you what we're doing from there. I am sticking to my promise, I will be taking good care of you. OK?" Gemma nodded shakily. "Good. I'm going to make some phone calls now, but I won't be long," Shane said. The 37-year-old doctor was respected not only by the three women, but also by their friends and many, many other inhabitants of Sligo. The three women remained in the living room. "Hunny, we know you're worried. So are we. But you heard the doctor, everything's going to be fine," Heidi said. She'd been sitting closely by the whole time. "Yes," Gemma said weakly, looking at the 34-year-old. "I know it will. When I get to..." Once again, she had to catch her breath. Then she continued, keen on finishing her sentence. "When I get to be treated by the Shane Filan," she said, "it will be fine. In fact, it will be more than just fine. What do you think?" She looked at the brown-haired woman, waiting excitedly for the answer. Even though she was undoubtedly affected by the seriousness of the situation, the comments made Heidi blush heavily. When Westlife was still a band, she had been a major and proud fan, just like five of her very best friends. From the very beginning through to the end of the band, she had loved Westlife's music. As a matter of fact, she still did - although the band had split up a long time ago. One night, while Westlife was still existing as a band, she happened to have a dream about what the lads would go on to do once the band split. Among other things, she dreamt that Shane went from being a pop star to becoming a hospital doctor. This dream had come from out of the blue. She simply didn't know what had triggered the dream in the first place. Not once did she think that her dream would actually come true. Not for a second did she think that Shane would become a doctor in real life. And now, today, here she was. In the living room in her brand new house in Sligo, knowing that her dream had indeed come true. It was almost too good to be true. But it was true. She knew that now. Shane quickly re-emerged, making straight for the sofa where he bent down to continue talking to his patient directly, while the others were listening. "I've been on the phone with the Accidents & Emergency department, and my Medical department, to inform them about you, the in-coming patient. Also, I've called for an ambulance." That last piece of information made Gemma look even more scared. Ambulance? Do I need that? "Ambulance?" she asked carefully, fearing the answer. Shane nodded. "Yes. You are in urgent need of oxygen, which is why I will not allow you to be transported by car. The ambulance, which will be here shortly, can provide you with an oxygen mask instantly." "Oh, OK," Gemma replied. The whole situation still frightened her to bits, but she knew she had no choice. She had to go by ambulance. Seven minutes later, the ambulance finally arrived. Two paramedics walked into the living room with a stretcher. Shane filled them in on the details, and Gemma was put on the stretcher. "Wait," she said as the paramedics were about to wheel the stretcher out from the room. "Hun, what's up?" Heidi asked. "Who's going to come with me in the ambulance?" Gemma asked. She really wanted to have some familiar faces around her on the way to the hospital. "There is not enough space for everyone," Shane explained. "I'm going to come with you." Charlotte went straight to the stretcher, looking at the child-carer. "Heidi and I will take my car. We'll meet you when we get there. Like we said, everything's going to be fine. We will look after you." Gemma finally stopped shaking. "Thanks. I really appreciate that you're coming along," she said, smiling. Charlotte smiled back. "That's the least we could do, sweetie. We're your friends. We care so much about you, and we will always be here for you." Reassured by this, Gemma told the paramedics she was ready. With that, she was wheeled into the ambulance, and Shane sat down beside her stretcher, providing her with the oxygen mask. Seconds later, the ambulance left. "Come on," Charlotte told her fellow Norwegian once the ambulance had left. "We have to hurry." The two of them went to get their bags, before hurrying to Charlotte's car. Coincidentally, the ambulance and Charlotte's car arrived at the hospital almost at the same time. The Norwegian women had just stepped inside the Accidents & Emergency department when they witnessed Gemma being taken to a treatment room. Shane, who was also in the corridor, immediately went over to his colleague. "Gem has been taken to Treatment Room 2," he informed her. "I need you to go in there and stay with her until I get back. I will get changed and I also have to get her chart." Charlotte gave a nod in response, and her colleague left to sort out the things he needed to take on this case. "Heidi," she said, "I have to go to Treatment Room 2. You can come along if you like. Just remember that Gem is in a poor condition." Together, they walked into the treatment room, in which Gemma was now put in a hospital bed. She was wearing a light-blue hospital gown, and some of her face was covered by an oxygen mask. She was also being monitored. A nurse, whose long hair was tied up in a ponytail, went over to the two that had entered the room. "Hello," she said friendly. "My name is Georgina. I'm a nurse within this department." "Georgina?" Heidi asked, instantly recognising the name and the way the woman looked. "You're Nicky Byrne's wife, aren't you?" "Yes, that's correct. My husband's a copper now, by the way. We moved to Sligo six years ago, and I started working here shortly after we moved here. But I've been a nurse for eight years, though," Georgina explained. "Wow," Heidi said, amazed. "So you know my doctor-friend already." Georgina was quick to confirm this. She continued doing her duties, while the others sat down nearby their friend's hospital bed. They were all waiting for one person - Shane. He suddenly turned up. Gone was the black pullover and the pair of blue jeans that he had been wearing. Right now, he was wearing a white lab coat, white scrubs, white pants and white shoes. He had a chart in one hand, and a black stethoscope round his neck. Stop dreaming, Gemma, the patient told herself silently. Stop dreaming, and instead concentrate on what's going on. EVen Heidi was unable to take her eyes off him. She had never seen him wearing anything like this before - not in real life, anyway. Not until now, that was. Having had a short chat with the nurse about the patient's blood pressure, Shane addressed his patient. "Hello again, Gemma. It's time to examine you," he explained, removing the stethoscope from his neck. Gemma removed her blue hospital gown, making it easier for Shane to do his job. "Take a deep breath, Gem," Shane told her as he listened to her heartbeats. "and another one, please." Gemma kept breathing in and out a few times, all the while struggling really hard. She looked at him, trying to get some hints as to what could be wrong. But she didn't see any. All she saw, was the concentrated look on his face. Having listened to her chest, he continued doing the same thing on her back. "Take another deep breath now," he said. Once he finished doing this examination, he proceeded to check her throat. "Say 'aaah'," he told her, sticking a medical instrument into her mouth. "Aaa...." Suddenly, Gemma stopped. "I..I can't breathe. My.." Shane went back to face her, then put the oxygen mask back on her face. His suspicions had been correct all along, he could say that for certain now. "Gemma," he said. "It appears that you have a serious case of pneumonia. Checking your throat, I could also detect a throat infection." Gemma looked at the doctor with fright.
